Giulia Mauro

Giulia Mauro is an Italian ceramic artist who uses the traditional maiolica technique, painting directly onto unfired glaze with special ceramic pigments.
Her unique colour palette is the result of two years of experimentation, combining Italian pigments with a glossy white glaze from the Netherlands. Finding the right combination required great precision, as the pigments and the glaze must respond to heat in exactly the same way, otherwise the glaze crackles or the colours fail to fuse properly.

Inspiration
The collection is inspired by La Bella ’Mbriana, a beloved figure in Neapolitan folklore. This benevolent spirit is said to protect the home and bring good luck and good health to those who welcome her inside.

‘You are welcoming into your home not simply a work of art but an authentic Neapolitan symbol of good fortune.’
